Two Makeup Dates Added; Next Race On Tap Sunday May 7th

With three of the first four dates canceled due to weather already this season, Franklin County Speedway officials have added two dates to the 2017 calendar.

Saturday May 20th and Saturday June 24th have been added to the schedule. Saturday May 20th will be the Commonwealth Clash event featuring Twin Late Model and Twin Mini Stock races plus racing in the V8 Street, U-Car and the Blue Ridge Mini Cups Pro division.

The Saturday night June 24th event is the Hometown Throwdown which will feature the first Limited Late Model race at Franklin County Speedway since 2007. The Limited Late Models will compete in a 50-lap race as will the Late Model Stock Cars on this night. You get two divisions of Late Model type cars both going for 50-laps plus racing in Mini Stock, V8 Street and U-Car.

Promoter Langley Austin says that the makeup dates will feature additional promotions for the fans and the teams to make changing the schedule worthwhile.

“It’s tough when you have to come up with makeup events,” said Austin. “Everyone tries to plan their weekends around the original schedule and adding events is never easy. These two dates avoid conflicts with other events in the area and we’re going to work hard to give fans and teams all the reason in the world to come race with us on these days.”

Austin said he’s also excited about running some Limited Late Model events starting with the first one on June 24th.

“We always get questions about why we don’t run Limiteds and why we don’t try some events, so here’s a great opportunity for us to add a race for those guys and see where it leads. Both Motor Mile and South Boston Speedway are off that weekend and it will give those guys a chance to come and check out Franklin County Speedway without feeling like they’re moving up to Late Models.”

Austin also said that he anticipates adding another date to makeup for last weekends cancelation but hasn’t found a date that works for the event.

The next race at Franklin County Speedway is next Sunday May 7th for the Moonshine Classic featuring an exciting evening of racing plus bicylce racing for the kids, street car drag racing for the adults and free train rides for the kids as well. Adult tickets $10, kids 5-12 $5 and children under 4 get in free.
