Warsing and Housman Head Into First Saturday Night Race Undefeated

When the green flag drops this Saturday night for the first night race of the 2017 season two drivers will be looking to stay undefeated.

Jason Warsing won all but two V8 Street races last season and he’s already won the first two races of the 2017 season. Tony Housman has won the last six U-Car races in a row dating back to the end of the 2016 season. Both drivers will be looking to keep their winning streak intact.

Warsing has had his hands full both races so far this season with Mike Worthington and Mark Arrington knocking on his back bumper. Warsing withstood the challenges but has to know the competition is getting closer to beating him. Both Worthington and Arrington are expected to be back in the field this Saturday night in what’s expected to be the biggest field of cars for the V8 Street division to date.

Housman for his part has been nothing less than dominant but 2016 Champion Larry Isley, Jr. and championship contenders W.J. Altizer and Mike Reed have been closing the gap. Isley for his part has challenged Housman but eventually faded away. Altizer rallied at the last race to Housman’s back bumper only to fall short of the win. Those four drivers are expected to be back in action this weekend with a handful of newcomers expected to challenge Housman.

In the Late Model division there’s been no dominant driver as some of the best drivers in the region have already taken wins this season. Four different drivers have won this season already including 2016 Martinsville Late Model winner Mike Looney, 2016 track champion Kyle Dudley, 2016 Orange County Speedway Limited champion BooBoo Dalton and multi-time race winner Kelly Kingery.

With twin 40-lap Late Model Stock Car features on tap there’s two chances for another driver to take home a win. Dennis Holdren and Devin Steele will be looking for their first wins of the season. Steele won four in a row to open the 2016 season before his streak was ended by Holdren in a bounty race. Neither driver has been to victory lane yet but both are going to be digging hard to get their first of the season.

Holdren and Chad Burnopp split wins in the Mini Stock division in the first two races of the season. This week the Mini Stocks will go for twins and several drivers will be looking for their first win of the season. One of those is Scott Foley who dominated the early part of the last race will be looking for his first win after a parts failure sidelined him midway through the race. Another is Jessie Yopp who’s tied for the points lead will be searching for his first win after coming from last to finish third in the most recent race.

Also on the docket this weekend will be the Blue Ridge Mini Cups Pro Division. Jeff Davis will be looking for his second win of the season but he’ll have several new challengers ready to take it away. One of those will be Abby Altice who’s moving up from the Future Stars division where she had several wins last season. Another will be newcomer Alfred Hamblin who has been testing to dial his car in for this weekends race.

Racing will return to Saturday night this Saturday May 20th at 7pm. Adult tickets are $10, Youth tickets (5-12) are $5 and children four and under get in free.
