Franklin County Speedway will kick things up a notch this weekend with the Memorial Day Bash celebrating Memorial Day with a night of racing action.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. Franklin County Speedway will remember those who served by giving half price admission to any active or retired military service member on Sunday night.
“We want to give back by helping those who defend our freedom in this country,” said track promoter Langley Austin. “Whether you’re currently serving or are a veteran we want to say thanks to you this weekend as we honor those who have lost their lives while defending our freedoms.”
Sunday nights Memorial Day Bash will feature a 100-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race plus the debut of the Moonshine Modifieds. Open wheel Modifieds are one of the areas crowd favorites and they’ll take to the track for 35-laps on Sunday. Other divisions in action will be the Mini Stocks, V8 Street and U-Cars.
The racing action got intense in several divisions this past weekend with the first night race of the 2017 season and business is sure to pick up as the lights come on for the Memorial Day Bash Sunday night.
“There’s just something about night racing that is inherently more exciting,” commented Austin. “Being able to see the sparks fly from the cars as they make contact and the other visual affects that make night racing more popular will all play out again this weekend.
A lot of competitors have been working all spring to try and get their cars ready and Memorial Day is about the time you start to see those guys who got a late start things.
“Some racers are just now starting to get their cars together and get themselves ready to race. I think we’re going to see some new guys or faces we haven’t seen yet this year starting with this weekends race. I’m getting a lot of calls from people who haven’t raced but are looking to practice and are ready to finally get on the track.”
Adult tickets are $10, Youth tickets (5-12) are $5 and children four and under get in free. Veterans and active military with ID will receive half price grandstand admission on Sunday night.
